Duffy is listed under a former, potential title of Suck it and See, a phrase used repeatedly by the novel’s antagonist.

Inserted into the proof is a letter to Barnes from Marilyn Edwards at Jonathan Cape stating, “I have just discovered one solitary proof of DUFFY that I thought you might like to have as they can be useful and anyway they are nice things to have.”
