Released as part of “Picador XXX Thirty” to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the Picador imprint that launched in 1972. The front cover uses a black and white version of the photograph that appeared on the first Picador edition in 1985 and the back cover reproduces the original cover in color.

This omnibus edition appears to have been printed and bound in Great Britain by Picador, but was published officially by Petersons for a foreign market. Listed as “Petersen Taschenbücher Bd. 156” on the page before the title page. The page numbering is distinct between the two novels.

Vintage issued the paperback edition of Julian Barnes’s Flaubert’s Parrot with an updated cover following the success of Barnes’s novel The Sense of an Ending in 2011. The cover lettering echoes the lettering on the jacket of the Jonathan Cape edition of the Man Booker Prize winning novel. Both covers were designed by Suzanne Dean. The edition pictured is a fifth printing with the number sequence on the copyright page: “6 8 10 9 7 5”.
