Picador reissued their edition of A History of the World in 10½ Chapters with new cover art at the same time they reissued Barnes’s other books. While the copyright page does not state the date, the rejacketed editions were issued in 2005. This printing is the 37th printing.

Picador reissued this redesigned (or “rejacketed”) printing of Barnes’s novel. This is stated as the 31st edition. The text pagination is the same earlier Picador printings. The exact date of this reissue is uncertain, but the list of titles ends with Letters from London 1990-1995, so the printing was issued after 1996.

Julian Barnes’s novel went through numerous printings with Picador. The first set of photos is for the 4th printing. Below is the 21st printing with variations to the sales price and small changes to the cover text. The text block for each printing remains the same.

This advertisement was intended to stand on display in a book store upon the publication of the novel by Alfred A. Knopf in 1989. The advertisement was acquired by a book store employee who kept it in storage for 20+ years before selling it.
Julian Barnes states that he used to have a copy of this placard in his study, but it remains unclear exactly how many placards were produced for promotional purposes.

This unbound, loose sheet uncorrected galley proof is from Julian Barnes’s personal collection. Printed by “Rowland Phototypesetting”, these loose proofs are printed on one side of each sheet, two pages per page, landscape format.
Jonathan Cape eventually published two separate bound proofs, the first in red and the second in white with illustrated cover. Both proofs state publication was scheduled for 22 June 1989. This proof has a date of “6th February 1989” printed to the cover sheet, which undoubtedly refers to the date the proof was printed by Rowland Phototypesetting.
